چکیده

Interval arithmetic is a tool of choice for numerical software verification, as every result computed using this arithmetic is self-verified: every result is an interval that is guaranteed to contain the exact numerical values, regardless of uncertainty or roundoff errors. From 2008 to 2015, interval arithmetic underwent a standardization effort, resulting in the IEEE 1788-2015 standard. The main features of this standard are developed: the structure into levels, from the mathematic model to the implementation on computers; the possibility to accommodate different mathematical models, called flavors; the decoration system that keeps track of relevant events during the course of a calculation; the exact dot product for point (as opposed to interval)

Interval Arithmetic for Maxima: Executive Summary

This is a short introduction to an implementation of interval arithmetic data structures and operations for the Maxima computer algebra system. We expect that further algorithms necessary to implement the forthcoming IEEE 1788 standard for interval arithmetic can be readily fit into this structure.

Arithmetic Aggregation Operators for Interval-valued Intuitionistic Linguistic Variables and Application to Multi-attribute Group Decision Making

The intuitionistic linguistic set (ILS) is an extension of linguisitc variable. To overcome the drawback of using single real number to represent membership degree and non-membership degree for ILS, the concept of interval-valued intuitionistic linguistic set (IVILS) is introduced through representing the membership degree and non-membership degree with intervals for ILS in this paper. The oper...

Interval operations involving NaNs

Ten years ago IEEE standard 1] for oating-point arithmetic became oocial. Each IEEE oating-point format supports: its own set of nite real numbers, 1, two distinguished values +0 and ?0 and a set of special values called NaNs (Not-a-Number). Arithmetic operations include operations on numeric, non-numeric or mixed operands in four rounding modes. A number of exceptional situations may arise dur...

Up-to-date Interval Arithmetic: From Closed Intervals to Connected Sets of Real Numbers

This paper unifies the representations of different kinds of computer arithmetic. It is motivated by ideas developed in the book The End of Error by John Gustafson [5]. Here interval arithmetic just deals with connected sets of real numbers. These can be closed, open, half-open, bounded or unbounded. The first chapter gives a brief informal review of computer arithmetic from early floating-poin...
